On this page you will find my graduation, post graduation thesis and also some assignments and small projects which I did during my post graduation.

Graduation Project

As a part of B.E. program, project for a year in an industry or research organization is required. I did my final year B.E. project at Space Application Center (SAC) of India Space Research Organization (ISRO), Ahmedabad. The project objective was to build a device called "PC Based Arbitrary Waveform Generator", used in the Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar of ISRO.

The waveform generator was combination of software and hardware. The software accepts any arbitrary waveform equation, parses it and samples it at the desired speed. The data samples are then sent to hardware via parallel port of computer, where they are stored in RAM. The hardware regenerates the analog waveform from the digital samples periodically.

The main purpose of the device is to cancel well-known noise and echo patterns in the radar.
The software was developed in C on DOS platform. The PCB design of hardware was done using Orcade PCB.
I will be soon making available the software and circuit designs.

Post Graduation Project

In IISc, I did my post graduation under Dr. Matthew Jacob of Computer Science and Automation Department of IISc. The project was to build a Messaging System for Time Warp OS (used for Parallel Discrete Event Simulation). Following is the project abstract. You can download the project report in postscript format from here.

Abstract : Discrete event simulation is a widely used performance evaluation technique, typically consuming large amounts of processor time and memory. The sequential execution of a large simulation may take hours or days of processor time, and if the model is probabilistic, many executions will be required to properly estimate system behavior. This makes it an ideal target for parallelization efforts. Distributed Simulation, in which parts of a simulation are executed in parallel, is therefore becoming more and more popular. Time Warp mechanism is an implementation of the Virtual Time paradigm for organizing and synchronizing distributed simulation. Time Warp operating system is based on time warp mechanism and provides a platform for distributed simulation.

In this project, we undertake the design and implementation of an important element -- the messaging system - of an operating system that supports the Time Warp mechanism of an optimistic Parallel Discrete Event Simulation.
